10 Data Points to observe for Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
These points are essential to create Current State VSM and Future State VSM.
1 Article for the Week:
What are the data points to collect to create a Value Stream Mapping? Often, I get this question from our clients.
So, here’s a list:
1. Cycle Time (C/T) - Average Time gap between 2 consecutive pieces from the process - in seconds (Note down the value added and Non- Value added time Separately)
2. Changeover time (C/O) - Setup Time in machine to switch over from one product to another
3. Number of people and No of Machines for the process
4. Available working time - The available working time per shift at that process(minus the break time, meeting time & Cleaning time) - in seconds
5. WIP present Before and After the process
6. Machine up-time - (remove Breakdown%) - in percentage
7. Pack size/ Bin size - Volume of the bin or the quantity contained in the bin
8. Rejection% & rework %
9. Production Batch Size
10. Transportation, Waiting, Other Wastes
Once you observe these points, you can start creating the VSM for the product category.
