1 Article for the Week:
Recently, we conducted a training session on Quality Problem Solving for our client. They face a lot of Rejections as their product Size does not conform to the standards. This issue is persistent for many years and they are unable to solve the same.
We followed the 11 step method to solve the same which I have explained below.
1. Define the Problem: Clearly state the issue or problem.
2. Data Collection: Gather relevant information and data.
3. Identify Potential Causes: List potential factors contributing to the problem. Techniques like brainstorming and cause-and-effect diagram (fishbone diagram) can help.
4. Narrow Down Causes: Prioritize and focus on significant factors.
5. Identify the Root Causes: Find the fundamental reasons behind the problem. Tools like “Why-Why Analysis” would help.
6. Validate Root Causes: Confirm with data and evidence. Take Trials and analyse the data.
7. Develop Solutions: Create actions to address the root causes. Guide the team to prepare Corrective and Preventive Actions.
8. Implement Solutions: Put the actions into practice.
9. Monitor and Evaluate: Assess the effectiveness of solutions.
10. Prevent Recurrence: Adjust processes to prevent future occurrences.
11. Document the Process: Record findings and actions taken for reference. Create SOPs and display in the workplace. Train the team on the new standard of working.
Following these would help in eliminating the rejections / reworks in your workplace too.
Can you implement these methods in your shopfloor? please share your comments.

2. “Why not make the work easier and more interesting so that people do not have to sweat? The Toyota style is not to create results by working hard. It is a system that says there is no limit to people’s creativity. People don’t go to Toyota to ‘work’ they go there to ‘think'” - Taiichi Ohno
