1 Article for the Week:
Shop floor is one of the most neglected areas in a company and a lot of confusions and fire-firefighting in operations leads to poor productivity. Senior management (in many companies) do not spend enough time there. They trust the middle management to lead the shop floor.
Managers / Incharges in shop floor are not trained properly (in many companies) and so, they operate in an unorganised way. This leads to a lot of inefficiencies in the operations leading to Defects, frequent breakdowns of machines, poor layout, improper manpower allocation, etc.
In many units, their current output can be easily increased by 25% (without adding machines and manpower), if we remove these wastes.
Identify Work and Wastes. i.e. Value Added Activities and Non-Value Added Activities
Ask Supervisors / Incharges to eliminate 1 waste per week and monitor the same
Flow eliminates wastes. Create Flow in your processes. Focus on wastes which hinders the flow - e.g. Changeover, breakdowns, waiting, etc.
These 3 tips will help in improving your Productivity by 25% from the current levels.
In case your team members are not trained on spotting the wastes or on Lean Manufacturing tools, our FREE Courses can help.
We have 2 FREE courses in a Bundle which helps manufacturing professionals learn about Lean Mfg and start implementation. Click here to enrol.
